I'd love to find an early model v6 manual; but would absolutely consider any and all models.

The biggest issue I see is a propensity to eat head gaskets...

Dated a girl that had a 2000 V8. While I loved the fact that it was a girl that drove a V8, RWD sedan..I didn't like the part where the steering wheel controls rewired themselves to not do a single thing that the buttons said they did.

Did you read my review?
But the only problems that I'm aware of are the throttle body and transmission. The rest are about the same as any other car from that era.

I like the tail lights on the early ones better. The abbreviated ones of the later years didn't look right.

I forget what year these first came out, but my dad had a silver V8 that was a ton of fun to drive and got a lot of looks at the time. They seem a little more pedestrian now, but still a good looking car. Only problem with his was longevity issues with fit and finish. Had some trim pieces come loose and some other minor annoyances that might have been common in the earlier models.

I wanted one when I bought my milan.

I found out it's a Jag underneath (including the V8 that came in it) and was a wiring nightmare.

I passed and bought the milan, which has been great.

My Dad had one. Very nice riding cars on the highway. suprising handling too (50/50 weight distribution) rides on rails no body lean at all.

The special edition SS model. # of 200 on dash (Bigger wheels, exhaust, only came in black with blacked out grill and accent pieces) oh and different headers and exhaust. bumbed the V8 +30HP to 282. At the time the direct competitor was the BMW 540 and they were great cars.

TERRIBLE cars in the wet/snow though.

although the front wheels are pushed to the front corners, the rear hangs over the back quite a bit and tends to scrape frequently existing steep driveways.

I always really liked these cars. Did you know the S197 mustang platform was based off of the LS?

My aunt had a 02 LS V8. Black on black IIRC

Find a 03+, the redesigns look better IMO. You can also find them with THX audio and HID reflector headlights.

They can be a bit annoying with maintenance, I heard they like to eat coils. I would do some reading into them, you can find info about them on lincolnvscadillac.com

I heard the same thing, that they go through coils and the rear ones are a real PITA to get to. My uncle had one and everytime I talked to him he was replacing one of them.

I've owned three. The main issues are ball joints, sway bar bushings, and coil packs. Other issues are clock springs, and coolant reservoirs. Head gaskets are only an issue if the car overheats due to a cracked coolant reservoir or an improperly bled cooling system. The V8s are actually easier to work on than the V6, mostly due to the fact that the 3.0L Duratec is meant for FWD cars. I'd buy an '02 LSE if one popped up cheap enough, the body kit and grill made the car look pretty bad ass.
